J R L - Stow Lake 2025

I had the privilege of taking maternity photos for J R L and baby this December. We landed on Blue Heron Lake (previously named Stow Lake) in San Francisco as our location for its beautiful foliage, lake, and Autumn/Fall atmosphere. The air was a brisk 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and J was only two weeks from the due date, but we still had a successful and fun winter photo session. Photos were taken with the Canon 6D with 24-70mm f2.8L and 50mm f1.2L.

Blue Heron Lake is a popular destination for all ages. The trail is always busy with families walking, enjoying a boat ride on the lake, or observing wildlife. The lake is filled with various bird species, making it a popular location for birding. Photographers love to bring clients here for the variety of beautiful natural backdrops, only steps away from each other. Free ample parking is also a plus.

Overcast skies blanketed with clouds gave a nice diffused light. I was initially worried for harsh sunlight, especially when shooting under leafy trees, but was relieved with even lighting. The 50mm f1.2L shined, giving a nice creamy background.

The session ended with a fun leaf throwing pose, suggested by R. Great recommendation, as I was able to capture these moments of childhood glee.

Thanks for braving the brisk San Francisco weather J R and L. and Congratulations on the baby!

LHCE - Home Studio 2025

In early October, I shot my sister and brother in-law’s family holiday photos. A minimal home studio set-up was determined to be the best choice to accommodate an infant and child, while matching the beige palette in an intimate but casual setting. Photos were taken with the Canon 6D + EF 24-70mm F2.8.

I created a home studio in our dining room with a minimal set-up using ‘Savage Seamless’ backdrop paper in color ‘Bone’. This matched the client’s beige color scheme. Natural sunlight through a large east facing window was used as primary lighting to the left with a floor lamp used as fill light.

After the photoshoot, I created 4x6 holiday cards using Canva, recreating a design the client found online. The card was printed with a matte finish and curved edges. The front design uses muted greens, browns, and autumn foliage, while the back design uses a darker green for a late December holiday feel.
